FCL FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

A bill of lading serves as a receipt for the cargo and can act as proof of ownership of the goods being transported.

Depending on the pallet size, you can fit an average 10 pallets in a 20’ container and 20 pallets in a 40’ container.

The larger your shipment, the better it is for you to ship FCL – full container load. This reduces costs, minimizes damage, and you’ll receive your cargo faster. As a general rule of thumb, if your shipment is less than 15 cubic meters in size, you’ll want to go with LCL shipping. However, your freight forwarder will always advise you and make sure you’re getting the most cost-effective and quick transit

If you’re shipping FCL, it will most likely take 1-3 business days for your shipment to be unloaded. If you’re shipping LCL, you’ll need an additional 1-2 business days for your container to reach your CFS, and then another 1-2 business days for it to be deconsolidated.

Cargo insurance will cover your goods if something happens to them in transit. Carriers work hard to limit their liability, which is why cargo insurance is so vital.

The cost of moving freight is not the same across all trade lanes, for a few reasons:

  • Supply and Demand
  • GRI (General rate increase)
  • Seasonal and Market conditions

The consignee is the party to whom ownership of the goods will transfer when the cargo is released at the destination. A consignee must be named on a bill of lading.
